Terminology
This pattern, along with all my other free crochet patterns, is written using US crochet terminology (eg. sc, hdc, dc). If you would like to purchase this pattern, you will receive both a UK and US terminology version. If you need assistance you can find my terminology translation table here.
- […] indicates a series of stitches to be repeated
- (…) represents stitch count you should have once round is completed
Materials
For this free pattern, I recommend using DK weight yarn with a 3.5mm sized hook. You can change the yarn and hook size according to what you prefer, I have a list of which hooks to use with what yarns here.
The DK yarn that I use is Stylecraft Special DK, however I have had similar success with brands such as Hayfield Bonus, Paintbox and King Cole Value.

Stuff the body
Rnd 11: [Dec] x 6 (6)
Finish stuffing and cut yarn, leaving a long tail.
Fasten off using the Drawstring Close:
Thread the tail through the front loop of each stitch, pull tight to close, tie off and pull the tail through to hide it.
Shaping
1. Using a needle, take the tail round and thread into the top central stitch.
2. Pull the yarn down through the stitch, pulling tight.
Repeat five more times, spacing your stitches evenly around to form that classic bumpy pumpkin shape. To finish, knot the yarn and pull inside to hide.
Stem of the Pumpkin
[Using green]
Row 1: ch 10, starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, sc 9 down (4)
Cut the yarn, leaving a tail. While holding the tails, twist the stem.
Pull each tail through each side of the centre top stitch and knot.
