Terminology
This pattern, along with all my other free crochet patterns, is written using US crochet terminology (eg. sc, hdc, dc). If you would like to purchase this pattern, you will receive both a UK and US terminology version. If you need assistance you can find my terminology translation table here.
- […] indicates a series of stitches to be repeated
- (…) represents stitch count you should have once round is completed
Materials
For this free pattern, I recommend using DK weight yarn with a 3.5mm sized hook. You can change the yarn and hook size according to what you prefer, I have a list of which hooks to use with what yarns here.
The DK yarn that I use is Stylecraft Special DK, however I have had similar success with brands such as Hayfield Bonus, Paintbox and King Cole Value.

Stuff the fruit
Rnd 12: In BLO: dc around (12)
Rnd 13: [Dec] x 6 (6)
Finish stuffing and cut yarn, leaving a long tail.
Finish using the drawstring close: thread the tail through the front loop of each stitch, pull tight to close and tie off.
Shape the Fruit
1. Using a needle and the left-over yarn from the tail, thread it up and out of the centre top of the apple.
2. Then thread the yarn back down through a stitch, adjacent to the middle.
Repeat these steps three more times, spacing your stitches evenly around that centre top stitch (In a + shape). To finish, knot the yarn and pull through to hide.
Feel free to do this in your own way to shape your apple however you like :)
Finish using the drawstring close: thread the tail through the front loop of each stitch, pull tight to close and tie off.
Stem of the Apple
[Using brown]
Row 1: ch 5, starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, slst 4 down (4)
Cut the yarn, leaving a tail.
Thread this tail through the middle of the stem and out the bottom, use these to attach it to the apple.
Leaf of the Apple
[Using green]
Row 1: ch 5, slst into 2nd ch from the hook, dc, htr, slst, ch 1 (turn)
Row 2: Working into the underside of the stitches: slst, htr, dc, slst
Finally, slst into your first stitch and cut the yarn leaving a long tail.
Finish as you did with the stem, do not cut the tails off.
Assembly
To sew on the leaf/stem: thread each tail through two different stitches and out through the same stitch on the bottom. Double knot these two tails together, cut the yarn and poke the knot into the apple to hide.
